There was something...invigorating about exploring the desert. It wasn't the sights, sounds or smells, but rather the temperature that attracted the muscular mage. The extreme temperatures served as an excellent excuse to shed his attire in favor of his preferred style of dress. Romilda stood on the cusp of the sandy desert, the heat of the area beating down on his exposed skin. The man wore nothing but a few straps of black cloth wrapped around his shoulders, a pair of tight undergarments and a surprisingly well pressed loincloth that hung over his groin. It was a shame that he had to keep his hair bundled up in a head wrap, but having his gorgeous main draped down his back was only going to make things hotter. And not just in it’s usual manner.[break][break]
Droplets of sweat were already starting to drip down the man's form as he arched his back and extended his arms, a soft sigh of satisfaction passing his lips as he stretched in preparation for the journey ahead. Romi waited patiently as he stared out at the horizon, his hand resting on the satchel of supplies that hung from his shoulder. It would have been nice to arrive at his destination with a planned partner, but unfortunately that wasn't something a rogue mage could always depend on. Even though he officially accepted the job it wasn't as if there was some organization that truly cared if he made it back or not. As far as they were concerned he would either return with useful information or die alone in the sand and make room for the 'real mages'.[break][break]
But Romilda wasn't about to let that bother him. For now he was content to lie in wait for the first mage to come along the trail. A job like this wasn't one that was likely to be ignored, and since the reward was on an individual basis he doubted anyone would be opposed to some friendly help in getting the job done. After all, it was so obvious that he was a formidable individual. Not only was he a perfect human specimen, he also was blessed with a face that even the gods would envy. Who in their right mind would turn down a chance to travel with such an individual?

nephele hadn't grown up in a hot region. [break][break] before being discovered in the wasteland of endless snow, she couldn't have imagined it being any different. when summer had come, giving riddance to the chill, it was nothing in comparison to this. one enormous stretch of torrid land— bathed within the absolute heat.[break][break]
no wildlife. no greenery. [break][break]
it may have been a necessary short—cut to her desired location, but she was beginning to wish she'd never shifted path. beads of sweat were forming against her pale features. the heaviness of the cloak and worn red dress doing nothing to aid the cause. at least it was a route hardly occupied by travelers. [break][break]
or— so she thought. [break][break]
in the distance just a few lengths off path loitered an individual. one muscular, tall and naked man. nephele had to gather that information a second time when she realized it was a possible weirdo. her expression stiffened and she stopped before taking in a breath. don't look his way, she thinks, her pace for walking suddenly much quicker.
[attr="class","kingsLyrics"]scars on my mind are bruises on skin
A slight movement in the distance managed to catch the corner of the nearly nude man, prompting him to immediately snap to look in its direction. Smokey eyes would catch sight of what appeared to be an individual in a red cloak that was looking in his direction. But then they would look away. But THEN they would, as many people simply could not resist doing, look back once again. To be expected, really. Not many people could fully absorb the splendor of his body from only a single glance.[break][break]
Romilda would waste no time in approaching the woman, his gait comparable to that of a highly confident power walker as he hastily made his way over to her. It was clear that she was trying to avoid him, which was also to be expected. His form was an intimidating one, and she likely viewed herself as unworthy of being in its presence. ”Greetings, stranger!” His voice bellowed through the empty terrain as he closed the gap, a hand raising to capture her attention once more.[break][break]
He wasn’t quite sure why she was dressed so heavily for a trip across the desert, but he could at the very least assume she had some sort of magical reason for doing so. Which would have to mean… ”Are you perhaps a fellow mage who has taken the task to scout out these deserts? If so I would suggest a partnership.” No time would be wasted as he made his point, his calm and confident tone effortlessly stringing his words together. ”Romilda DePalo, at your service.” Romi would place a hand on his chest as he bent at the waist, offering Nephele a respectful bow as if he were dressed in the attire of a noble rather than...almost nothing at all.

the encounter was inevitable. [break][break]
why else would the half—naked man be loitering in the middle of nowhere? obviously this was the moment he'd been waiting for— something nephele could only dread as it occurred. the stature loomed over her own. completely shadowing her figure from the glare of the sun. finally she stopped.[break][break]
the mention of the apparent task was all that caught her attention. she'd been inclined to lie of her capabilities but held onto her tongue. those piercing red eyes glimpsed beneath the hooding, one quiet sigh slipping by parted lips. "take a step back." truthfully intimidated by the nature of the large man.[break][break]
it was difficult to show. [break][break]
"romilda, was it?" introductions weren't exactly her forte and it clearly showed. her identity remained a mystery in regards to her desire for understanding, "don't hold me back then." she said, feigning the idea that she had wandered this way just for this task.[break][break]
a clever roundabout in order to deal with this oddity. nephele did not trust the man neither the invitation. perhaps it was a question of sanity if one truly did find ease in strangers.
[attr="class","kingsLyrics"]scars on my mind are bruises on skin
The woman’s lack of a reaction to his impressive presence was...curious. A hint of tension would enter his smile as he rose a hand and took a step back, his head tilting as lids lowered to slightly narrow his sharp eyes. Normally people had some sort of response to his form, whether it be awe, embarrassment, interest or what have you. But this one seemed to be unresponsive. But why?[break][break]
Luckily it seemed he would have an opportunity to find out. ”Hold you back?” He would scoff at her remark, the slight edge to his smile growing stronger as he shrugged it off.. ”I’ll just assume that the heat of the sun has impacted your perception. I assure you that I will do no such thing.”[break][break]
He rolled his shoulders, adjusting the leather straps of both his satchel and the broad bladed greatsword that were slung over his shoulders. They would each get their chance to prove themselves during this journey, he was certain. No use getting hung up on such an inaccurate concern. ”Let us not waste any more time. Would you like to lead the way miss…” He would gesture toward the open wasteland as he trailed off, his gaze remaining locked on Nephele as he waited for her to fill in the blank.
It has taken a moment, but you’ve embarked on your mission through the desert sand. Due to your terrible fashion decisions, the red desert sun beats down particularly hard on your under and over dressed figures. If this site tracked the damage of sunburn and sweat, you’d both be at -10, but fortunately for you Goddess Rebecca is smiling in your favor. Looking around, there are no reservoirs or oases in your current location. If this heatwave continues, you can’t be sure how far you’ll make it. "rem." she finishes, leaving no room for civility in the introduction. it isn't the nature of nephele to reveal her identity. she may take risks but— this is the one risk she is unwilling to take. [break][break]
or maybe that was a foolish idea. half—way into the venture— when the trail is no longer in sight— does the girl greatly regret ever doing this. pale features drip with sweat. as though she'd just stepped from the cool waters of a nonexistent oasis. i'm going to die, nephele thinks, unwilling to toss the cloak. her flesh would surely turn beneath the searing heat.[break][break]
"remind me why scouting this place is so damn important." she says, her voice strained in—between dehydration and annoyance. "or is this some sort of trap?" the glare is directed towards the man. so far— given her previous suspicions however— that idea faded elsewhere. nephele was far to afflicted by the unbearable heat to consider ill omens. especially those that lacked cover. [break][break]
the girl stopped and then she turned. everything around them looked identical. even if they wanted to go back they could not. it was either this cruel continuation or a chance at another useless path. nephele was beginning to think that they'd be ending up nowhere if they didn't try at something else.[break][break]
one visible peak of rugged terrain in the distance catches her eye. "this way." she says, moving her chosen direction whether the other liked it or not. of all the times she wished to use her time— this certainly was not it.

It was a shame that he seemed to find himself on what would surely be a long and difficult journey with a woman who didn’t seem to have the social awareness to properly introduce herself. Or perhaps she was simply so uncomfortable in the presence of his beauty that she had to be careful to control herself. As much as he would have liked to believe that latter theory it would be unceremoniously put to death as their trek went on.[break][break]
His smile would fade, sharp eyes glancing over to his cloaked companion as his lips pressed themselves into a flat line. ”It’s important because we are on official business for the Kingdom. Have you already forgotten why we’re here?” As he spoke he would reach into his satchel, pulling out a sizable canteen. ”Honestly, you need to relax. It will make this mission go so much more smoothly if you do.” The liquid contents sloshed around inside the container as he unscrewed the cap and brought it to his lips, taking a few gulps of the now warm water.[break][break]
From looking at him it would seem the giant of a man was unaffected by the blazing sun beating down on him. But in truth he could practically feel the sweat sizzling off his body as it formed on his skin. It was positively dreadful, but he couldn’t let it slow him down. His steps would stop alongside Nephele’s, his own smokey eyes scanning the horizon in search of any sign of...anything, really.[break][break]
Luckily it seemed that his partner was quite perceptive. ”Lead the way.” He would follow closely behind the raven haired woman, his eyes locked onto that likely sweaty cloak she refused to remove. ”You really ought to take that thing off. Just looking at you is making me even hotter.”
Across the horizon, nephele remes has noticed a rugged landscape: the pieces of a ruined civilization. As you make your way closer to this location, the first thing you notice is a change in the sand. Perfectly smooth dunes lead you to believe that this part of the Red Desert has not been explored for generations. Whatever signs of life following you from your previous path have been washed away by the sands of time, and your footprints begin to leave a deeper impression. It is as if by magic that this part of the desert can exist untouched. [break][break] By the time you reach your destination, what immediately stands out is a huge slab of rock sticking out of the sand. It is a deep orange in color, with cascading formations. Stretching high into the sky, what stands out most is the face of this rock formation. Carved into it with craftsman-like precision is an ornate entrance. High pillars frame a crown of dragons sits above the entrance, each one chiseled into perfect. [break][break] Will you venture inside this mysterious formation? the kingdom. [break][break]
she repeated those words within her mind. visibly perturbed that this was for the people far from her regard. thankfully the suffocating wear of the hood did well to mask the furrow and nephele continued onward silently.[break][break]
"would you rather i burn?" the girl questioned, her tone rigid but lacking of emotion. it didn't seem a genuine curiosity rather than a hardened remark. the scarcely covered individual might've been having a better time though— she doubted his flesh would feel content after their venture.[break][break]
over the slight rise of sand stood their destination. nephele hadn't anticipated something of history to be settled before them. the structure undeniably remarkable given its untouched state. it was all brought together for some unknown and mysterious reason.[break][break]
she stopped before the entrance, eyeing the crown of dragons. their emergence into this formation holding some form of semblance. at least she figured there had to be. then again the opposite would've practically screamed it's a trap. those red eyes shifted to the other.[break][break]
"you first, partner." nephele said, gesturing towards the dwelling, "unless you're scared." a slight smile traced those lips. the expression one of mockery and tease. she didn't mind leading the way, but, given the change of scenery it would've better not to take risks.
[attr="class","kingsLyrics"]scars on my mind are bruises on skin
"I would rather you cease with the needless bristling. It's quite draining." He shook his head, a hand moving to wipe the sweat from his brow. With how hot he was without anything adding his own body's warmth to the equation he was absolutely baffled that the girl had managed to go this long without passing out. If this kept up he was going to have to carry her to safety before they even completed their objective. Though he would probably still get just as much conversation out of her in such a state.[break][break]
Romilda would instead choose to distract himself by focusing on the shape in the distance. His eyes narrowed into a squint as his hand moved to shade his eyes from the harsh sunlight. It was difficult to tell what it was from the distance, but whatever it was it was definitely worth invesigating. This proved to be more true than he realized, as when he looked at the dunes there seemed to be no trace of movement for some time. The dunes were perfectly smooth, undisturbed by anything but the wind for who knows how long. Granted he was no expert on desert tracking, but this at least proved to offer a bit of hope.[break][break]
"This is it. I think we're on to something, Rem." A calm excitement would enter into his voice as he regained his previous slight smile, his fingers flexing in anticipation as they drew nearer. He would pause to examine the structure, a thick finger moving to wrap around his chiseled chin as he took in the delicate handiwork that made up it's form. It was a work of art, really. Something he wished he could take back home with him. Surely this was something that the kingdom would be interested in.[break][break]
Romilda would look over to Rem as she taunted him, his brows raising as his smile turned to a confident smirk. "Really? Resorting to mockery already? I'm going to have to teach you how to properly communicate during the trip back." His head tilted upward slightly as he spoke, his gaze traveling down his nose at the cloaked female. "Come on now. You're in charge of watching our backs." Without hesitation Romi would move to make his way down the stairs, his smooth confident movements masking the rapid beating of his heart as he stepped down. He already had a sneaking suspicion of what was lurking in this strange structure, but with any luck he would be wrong.
It’s becoming clear who the brain of this operation is as your party advances into the ruins. With Romilda DePalo leading his way down a set of stairs, the two of you manage to make it through the entrance without too much complication. Suddenly, there’s a rumble. The floor shakes and the walls start to vibrate. If you look up, stalagmites line the ruin ceilings and a few are dislodged, dropping towards your body. nephele furrowed her brows upon the statement. knowing fully such a thing wouldn't be happening. she was good at keeping her mouth shut. refusing to acknowledge the pester for civility with some well—deserved silence. it was earned— not given for free. [break][break]
trailing behind the brute at a reasonable distance, she observed the dusty texture of the walls and ceiling. regarding the stalagmites even before the place started to tremble. hands shifted in color to a distinct darkness, the demonic change allowing her to deflect the descent. shattering the aged material.[break][break]
it seemed the momentary quake was the least of their worries. what had stood in the distance serving a reasonable guard for whatever settled in the depth. her usual serious expression drawing into a blank at the features of the golem. everything proving to be intimidating till the head was regarded.[break][break]
"careful. something tells me that is not a face of hospitality." she'd heard of so many ruin explorations to know that there were obstacles at every turn. even if they had been quite outrageous. nephele was beginning to think otherwise. her red eyes never leaving the bulky creature and its cute face.

Romilda would remain cautious as he made his way deeper into the cavern, his eyes traveling along the floor, walls and ceiling with each step he took. He may have been a towering wall of muscle, but that didn’t mean he was a fool who would blindly charge into danger without hesitation. His eyes would come to settle on the stalactites, his pace slowing as he started to utter a word of caution to his partner. But it would seem there was no time.[break][break]
The earth would shake and the stone spears would come crashing down toward them. He was already too far into the cluster to avoid them, which meant he would be forced to absorb the impacts. Romilda would bend over backwards, facing his torso toward the cieling as he let out a mighty ”HO!”. The moment he did his entire body would swell with muscle in a more uncomfortable looking fashion.[break][break]
The way his body bulged made him look inhuman, like a mass of living muscle with the vague shape of a human. The muscles would visibly flex and tighten just as the stalactites would collide with his body, the stone shattering against the man’s rock hard body. His body would stand unflinching, absorbing the impacts without budging even an inch. Once the barrage of stone ended he would take release the spell, letting out a sharp breath as his body gasped for air. Even if it didn’t cause any major injury it still was quite painful, as could be seen by the slight reddening on his exposed abs where he was impacted.[break][break]
Before he would have a chance to speak to Rem the next threat would make itself known in a most uncharacteristic manner. Sharp eyes would narrow as he reached back to grip the hilt of his blade, lips pressing into a flat line as he attempted to assess the...golem? ”I admit, that is not what I was expecting.” A quick glance would be shot to the woman behind him, his previous relaxed voice gaining an edge of intensity. ”Tell me now, do you value strength or speed?”
